How wxactly do I connect my laptop to my Xbox? I've hooked it up to my desktop PC via a router without problems. Do I use a patch or a crossover cable? Any other tricks? I've tried a crossover cable but no joy thus far.

Can you hook your laptop to your router then FTP to xbox? You won't need a crossover cable that way, only a standard cat 5 line. Just install flashFXP on your laptop and you shouldn't have an issue. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

I don't have a router (I'm on vacation). I've tried FlashFXP + crossover cable... no joy. Bad cable?

OIC, didn't realize you that. I can't think of why it wouldn't work unless like you said, the cable was bad. I have never FTP'd via crossover cable, I have always used a router so I don't know if there is anything else to consider.
I will check some tutorials and see if we're missing something. _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

make sure that the evox .ini file has 'static' ip set to yes and give it an address.
also, make sure your firewall allows the connection. i was having problems too but found out that if i put the ip address of my box in the 'trusted' zone of zonealarm it works.
make sure that the default gateway of the box is the static ip of the laptop. i noticed that on a tutorial or something somewhere.
that's all i've got. anyone else? _________________ XBOX v1.1 - Philips DVD

Cross over is the easiest way..
First thing i would do is check that you have activity lights on both the xbox and the pc network adapter.. You should be able to tell straight away..
If your CABLE IS OK CONTINUE:
1. I would connect your CROSSOVER FROM YOUR XBOX TO YOUR PC (directly).
2. Set your Laptop Network like this
Go into settings then choose 'YES' for static ip.
Now set the XBOX ip addess as below:
XBOX EVOX CONFIG: (evox.ini) or just use the settings menu in evox.
Static ip = Yes
IP: 192.168.0.2
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY: 192.168.0.1
If you are changing the settings using the evox dashboard (under settings) then dont forget to chose 'SAVE & EXIT' when you have added your static ip address..
4. Reboot your pc then once it comes back up reboot your xbox
some tips:
Show all your network settings using dos:
1.Choose 'Start Menu' Then Choose 'Run'
2.Type 'cmd' in nt/2k/xp or 'command' in 95/98/me
3. now type 'ipconfig /all'
4. it will will display all your pc's settings in a easy to read format.
