I need some help before I buy the right bits and bobs, but my xbox powers up but appears with a blank screen and no error message. The dvd tray wont open and it wont read any discs. I have opened up the dvd and rescued my disc, had a look at the tray mechanism, but it still wont open and still get a blank Sad

It sounds like your xbox overheated. You can either try replacing the motherboard, you buying a new one. I'd buy a new one if it were me, but I'm old, lazy, and got money to blow. Hey, used ones are cheap!

Sorry for the bad news. Hope you get rolling again soon. Then again, maybe someone else will have another solution, but I'm pretty sure it is an overheat issue. Is this machine modded? Did it have ample clearance for cooling purposes? The fan could have taken a shit, but who knows how the overheat occurred.

Later man. Cool

Thanks for that suggestion, but no chipped machine, totally as new only 6 months old and only a handfull of genuine games played on it. This was actually a problem that got steadily worse until it would no longer read discs or open

You don't have to have a chipped machine for overheat issues, I was just asking general questions.

If it was on other electronics that get hot, or doesn't have ample clearances on the sides for proper air flow and cooling the overheat can happen easily.

Most processors can malfunction after only 30 seconds of overheat issues. If machine is only six months old, I'd call M$ and get some freebee work done.

Keep us posted!

Good luck man!
