Post subject: Spider chip installation problem

I have had hard times trying to install the chip. Sometimes the chip worked for couple days and then got loose again and then i had to repeat the whole god damn process.
Well today it got loose again and now even when I press the chip to the board myself, the LED lights up only occassionally. When the LED lights up, sometimes the EVOX loads up, more often it just tries to boot 3 times and ends up flashing red and green. What can be the reason of this? Since I am pressing the chip to the board myself, if it is connectivity issue, I'd be surprised. Is there any way to fix it if that's the case? Also i broke the D0 wire and I had to solder it in, but I tested and eliminated it as a reason for this.

Thanks for your help.

that is pretty common with the spiderchip. you can do the following to try and get evrything working again:

1) completely remove the chip and reinstall it

2) when/if you get evreything working porperly you can solder the the chip and wires to your motherboard.

I have tried removing and putting it back hundred times. The problem now is I cant even get it to work with my hand pressing on it. Maybe I have damaged the chip? The weird thing is once in a while, it will boot up just fine (when I press on it) but this happens less and less often.

If you are still having this problem you may need to check the motherboard. Does the LPC have solder at all? If so take some flux and clean it up. What is happening is that there is not a good connection there. Let me know what happens.

The LPC doesnt have any solder over it, and I managed to get the chip working before for a couple of days. Right now I have to tilt it all the way towards the screw hole for the first pin (at the top row) to have connectivity. If I press the whole thing flat to the board, the LED doesnt even light up (due to the first pin not connected).
I'm thinking maybe I have damaged that LPC hole. Is it possible?

if you have a v1.1 spiderchip you may want to read the following:

Quote:
As previously announced the SpiderChip v1.1 met a installation problem. All pogo pins do not touch correctly the motherboard of the Xbox, causing the chip inability to boot. The screw and the ring delivered with the chip are the main cause of this problem. They are not of the proper size and therefore do not allow a good alignment of the pogo pins.

The pogo pin 'GND' ( http://www.spiderchip.com/The%20pogo%20pin%20%27GND%271.jpg ), linked to the problem of the screw, prevents some other pogo pins to fit in correctly. This Pin is a 'security' pogo pin. In fact, it is not used for this Xbox version and it only is here to ensure the compatibility with future versions of Xbox.

One easy and efficient way to install the SpiderChip with perfect result is to remove the bottom of the GND pogo pin (please refer to the picture for more details). Once this is done, we suggest you to use a 9mm long screw in conjunction with a 2mm thick ring. The installation will be flawless!
