Thanks man, That'll work!
I really dont want a DVD in there. I want it as small as possible & as clean looking as possible. I found a company that will make it out of an aluminum tube, so that the edges are all nicely rounded. I am debating paying the extra money to get the front face welded on so it looks like one piece & the components will slide in from the back, the back piece will hold everything in place....
That slim DVD is a samsung out of a Dell laptop. _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic

Normal PC IDE connectors are a 40-pin EIDE standard.
Laptop IDE disc drives use the 44-pin EIDE standard.
Thas pretty much what they are.... 44-pin EIDE, there isnt any other name.
HAHA and for awhile I was going nuts thinking the pic was of your HDD!!! But it was really your dvd.
so ya 44-pin EIDE
Hope that helps _________________ -Scourge "Rx = +/_\"

i wouldnt worry about it, the drive wont work.
I plan to just use 1 or 2 laptop HDs & FTP the data to them. Since no one knows what a 2.5 pin header is called I guess I will just use the bulky adapter
I think it will cost too much to have this made with an aluminum tube like I had wanted...but I found out it is cheap to get it carved out of a solid block of aluminum, $150 for a prototype compared to $400 for the tube method. Kind of surprising, I thought bending/flatening out a tube would take less time than carving out 1 sq ft of aluminum.... _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic

Sorry for the late responce. It was tough for me to say earlier but the actual industry standard name for that smaller 2.5 EIDE connection is "44-pin EIDE" (the - may not be present in some versions of the name)
Just like there isnt any other name Ive heard for standard 40-pin EIDE except that actual name. "IDE cable" is only used to describe it because it is what more people come across (regular PC version that is). Like how many people call cotton swabbs Q-tips. _________________ -Scourge "Rx = +/_\"

lol...I know what you mean, but for a standard IDE connection you just use a pin header. I cant find the smaller version of the pin header.
I will probably just stick to the adapter. I dont think I will be making many of the case anytime soon, so I can worry about that later. _________________ LED Rings $6 (doesnt include LEDs) LED ring pic
