When you play a map in Halo it gets cached. The HCE app allows you to make modifications within a limit on the Xbox itself to that map. I never messed with it enough to tell you exactly what to do, but this should get you started. Choose any map and start a multiplayer game on it, immediately quit out and reboot Xbox. Launch the HCE; the map you were just in before quitting out can be selected and then modded. You are not modding your map files themselves so don't worry about messing up any of your maps.
