I have a software modded xbox, running EvoX off of the original HD. I am trying to install a larger HD, 120 gig Western Digital, but I cann't get it to close. I used Slayers Auto Installer 2.6, running off of a disk and that couldn't do it. The config magic program on the CD said the HD was not lockable. I also tried a Maxtor 120 gig HD, with the same results.
Any suggestions on what to try next? I have Slayers 2.6 and xbox SDK (on my cpu). Any other programs I should try?

I checked that already... both hard drives had been locked with at least one of Slayers or ConfigMagic, if not both.

With softmodding, I normally just use a program called "XboxHDM" You ftp your files from the hard drive, and it creates a disk using your pc. _________________

Does that also lock the HD?

As long as the drive is lockable it does. _________________

I used the program Sjohn is talking about for my softmod. I did the softmod, ftp'd off the C/E + eeprom and burned a DVD of everything I wanted and ran the xboxhd software.
I used Option 6 from the VGA menu to get the hard drive lock code I needed for the new drive. I then used the "hdlock" program to lock the drive.
There is an automagic mode on the xboxhd software, but even though I had the eeprom burned to the dvd it wouldnt lock my drive. I had to do it by hand.
I'm guessing the eeprom is run against some special program to give you the lock code you need for your new hard drive and that the lock code from the original xbox hard drive is different? I'm pretty new to this stuff, but maybe sjohn or someone else can explain how that works.

OK, I'm trying to download the program now from DC, but only one person has it. Do you guys know if there is a way to manually enter the lock code for ConfigMagic? If there is I could try that right now and see if it works. Also, I don't know if this matters, but the only way I can run config magic on my new hard drive is if i boot it up using the original (sofware modded) hard drive, and then swap the IDE cable over to the bigger HD.
