I bought a xbox online premodded, but the guy never told me it was softmodded. Needless to say, he wouldnt give me my money back. It works fine for now, but I really want to have a modchip put in. Is there anyone here who does that sort of thing? I also don't want to lose the files I have on it already. Is this even possible?

I have never messed with a softmod before, but if you are able to FTP into it then you can grab your data that you want, then install the mod chip, then handle the rest.
I think this is a very doable task
What size HD is in it right now, the stock HD?? Or, is there a larger one?

Definately if you can FTP into it already, you won't have any problem saving your files that you already have on it!
If you're in the US, I would HIGHLY recommend ModGod, his service is awesome and he provides all the support you need after he's completed with the work. Very good prices too. Just so you know that he's the greatest, haha!

That's a high percentage thing people are doing (selling mods and not putting chips in).
Always try to get specifics from your modder, like exactly what products he/she is using and so on. Pay through PayPal. Use your Credit Card through paypal if you can instead of your banking account.
This gives you protection through your CC company. If the product you get is subpar, you can return it and contest the charges.
I know some modders hate when I give that information out as it may cause problems. Some people just really dont know how to use their machines and they get frustrated during the first week or so, and this may cause people to contest a charge based on operator error....but, I think that is a low percentage risk to take to make sure that people are getting quality products.
There is no QC in modding...you only have your instincts and word of mouth to let you know who's the good guys, and who's the bad guys.
I welcome any customer to purchase something from me via credit card. Whatever I can do to assure them that their product is top notch and I am a legit modder is fine by me. I have actually had people email me saying that I have to be a scammer to be offering such good prices on mods. I actually knew I was lower than some, but thought didn't think I was too low. I know you can't please everyone all the time.... trust me, I have been in retail long enough to know that. But, it doesn't hurt to try
