Did you change the IP to fit your network in the Config.xml using "Recreate"?
Default is 192.168.0.2
Gateway 192.168.0.100

If you use a router you need something like 192.168.1.30
gateway 192.168.1.1

hope that helps!

I did notice that UnleashX has released a new version, and I think they did mention there was some FTP problems.

This will also be included in the v1.01 update pack. I will patch the actual AI's xbe file, and include the new version of UnleashX for the dashboard.

Awsome.
Though the FTP worked fine for me. I changed the Config.xml file before I burned the DVD and, heres the awsome part, the FTP ran smoother than it did from my alread installed version of UX.
funky huh?

DJB, just an Idea.
You could make a selection screen (like you would put on a 2 game backup disk) that lets you choose between two AutoInstallers. (Same AI, all options point to the same places, just the IP config is diffrent for the two dashes. One for PC-BOX and one BOX-Network
I wouldnt quite make it so that it ALL the config files installed are changed, it would be like your starting from scratch. But it would give the newbies a start. They need to learn how change their own config files ont he stuff they install anyway.
It would at least give newbies that are still learning the ins-and-outs of modding a lifeline FTP into their box.

But for me, its great!
Im still working on changing the Config Files on my AI disk, its a fun little project for me between semesters!
And from the way it looks in this fourum, by the time I want to put in the ROMS XBOX-HQ will have some ROM flavored goodies for their fathful members.
I love this place!

If you explain to me what IP address you need for BOX-Network I could look into it, but I don't really know much about this. I'm gonna rely on you to tell me the correct information as far as what IP addressing is needed, I "might" be able to put this into the v1.01 update.

For a most home networks I would put
Type: Static
IP: 192.168.1.30
Gateway: 192.168.1.1

The End user would have to have like 29 other PCs on the network for there to be a problem. (29 because the router assumes the first address "gateway")

If you want when Im done edititing all of my config files (and before I put on my custom menu layout) to go with a regular network I can just keep them off to the side.
When Im done with them all Ill send them your way. and you actually could have a whole second set of options just for Xboxes on regular networks.
The catch-52 is im doing this for leasure, so I would be done maybe mid next month (because Im changing ALL the menus too) I would just asve the version before I change the menu as I go, thus saving you the trouble if you wanted to do the large scale version, and its no extra effort to me cause I do it as I go.

Though if you want to do the smaller version and have the FTP working for the Installer Dash I can send you a copy of my config.xml if you want.

I was thinking if you could put the main dash in two different directories, same dash, diffrent config.xml.

PS. What does DJB stand for? Very Happy

So it's just another form of static network? Forgive me for saying this, but is this really needed, it seems like a bit of lazyness on your part Smile

You're basically asking for your own setup to be included. Why not just configure the IPs to what you want then burn it? Changing the network settings ain't too difficult. When the ISO is extacted you can change the config.xml file, plus unzip the dashboard config files, edit them, then re-zip them.

I've been getting a few ideas for some small improvements over the last day or so, and I'm happy to say I'll be able to inculde most, but I'm afraid this one doesn't really seem worh it. Sorry mate.

I dont think you quite got what I was saying.
I wasnt asking you to do it for me, I already had my settings changed and burned into the disk. I was anxious to take it for a spin so the only thing I changed was the IP settings on the config.xml, repacked, and burned.
At the moment I am working on changing ALL of the config files myself to have the regular network settings, atm I only have changed the versions that apply to me. I wouldnt ask you to go back and change EVERY config file, I would be an ass-hat for that. I was offering to give you my changed config files that I did (a version before I change the menu structure). Just in case you wanted to add it as an option in the distant future.

50% of my friends' Xboxes are on a home network so when I start on theirs it would be easyier for me to select "Hub" or "No Hub" than to go back and change the IP configs on all apps and dashes installed.
This was something I was wanting to do to the installer anyway, I was just offering to give you the files that resulted from my work to ease your troubles. There would be a second directory with the second set of settings for a Pro-hub (router) configuration. Same DIR structure and everything.

If anything when Im done I could just send the finished product to the Downloads section so that a member can cut and paste the new Config dir over the original when the ISO is unpacked.
I would hate for all this stuff Im doing to only be useable to me. Smile

OK, here's an idea:

I don't really tihink I'd want to build it into the ISO as such, coz basically all it is at the end of the day is IP Configuration.

What I can offer though is a small patching tool which will extract tht iso, patch the config files, then rebuild it (similar to what I'll be doing with the v1.01 update pack).

So 192.168.1.1 would be a standard IP address, I thought 192.168.0.1 was still the IP address set by Windows for Internet Connection Sharing?

So maybeyou'd want me to do something like this for the setup:

IP: 192.168.0.100
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Or does it have to be x.x.1.x ??

Let me know soon and I'll throw this in the v1.01 update pack (man, this is gonna be a chunky update, hehehe).

DJB,

Just about all homebased routers come with a standard default of 192.168.1.1 here in the States. Personnaly I would prefer the option of being able to run an networking setup program sort of like when I set up my modded XBox. But let me also say that the AI ROCKS and changing the IPs has been no big deall, I just widened the netmask of my router so that I could see the XBox and then made the changes and viola.. everything worked.

Thanks again for all of your hard work and insight put into the AI..

Thats an even better Idea DJB, less bloatware.
From the times Ive put together a nome network that X.X.1.X is needed in the IP and Gateway.
192.168.1.1 is the default address for most home routers, so thats the gateway.
the address to the xbox Im working on currently is 192.168.1.3
This is because I have 2 computers. but before I hand back the machene Im changing it to 192.168.1.30 so that there is a better chance there wont be a problem with two devices having the same IP.
Also, setting it to Dynamic is an idea. Ill give it a go today and tell you if that works out allright. I think it might be the best route because it will allow the router to assign the IP so that no two boxes have the same IP.

I didnt really need to configure anything on my router, it did all of the work for me.

Anyway Ill throw the 192.168.1.30 and try out Dynamic and see which one works with the least amount of trouble and let you knowby the end of the day.

OK you're sort of half right.

Yes, most networks will be stanard with a 192.168.1.x address, but funny enough my Router's original IP was 192.168.1.254. So I just ended up configuring my Router for the 192.168.0.x network and put it at 192.168.0.100.

You could sort of blame all my network study aswell, becuase the most used IP range I've used is 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.0.254.

Now, I'll do one of these two but not both

1) Use another static IP settings for 192.168.1.1 as the gateway

2) Use Dynamic IP Addressing

Personally if I was to do an add-on regarding the networking I'd prefer to put in option 2 , as the one exsisting is already static. I mean, it doesn't take long to go through the config files in the current setup, and set up all the right IP sceheme before you burn the DVD / CD. I even make it easy by showing the user where all the files are on the ISO that can be edited or changed. So putting in another set of static would be useless, but putting in a dynamic might be an idea.

So, unless there is big disapproval there will be these 2 versions of the v1.01 update:

1) Update to v1.01 using Static IP Addressing
2) Update to v1.01 using DHCP (Dynamic Addressing)

Sounds OK?

Word!
I down with that.
All of my studies are circles around the nitty gritty of electronics, the network stuff I know is only what I learned from trial and error, so basically I can get a network to work, I know how one works (component wise and how the data is transfered. But I dont actually know about the crazy coding that goes on. Thats why I put the disclamer (software noob Cool )

Yeah man that sounds like an even better Idea!
