did you try to burn an unmodified version to see if that works?

have you used the same media before with the xbox? my guess is either incompatible media or a bad download... have any cd-rw's laying around to try?

i got a 50 pack of "Value Disk" (actual name brand) dvd-r's for $8 after rebates, boy was i surprised they actually worked! for some reason my 2 cd-rw's that are 5-6 years old are no longer even recognized by my computer as even being IN the drive so i had to use a DVD-r

It might possibly be the intro which is at the start of the Auto-Installer.
Try this:
1) Open Recreate, and make sure the ISO is in the same directory.
2) When it asks you to make any changes, do this:
* Delete default.xbe
* Make a copy of install.xbe and call it default.xbe
3) Proceed.
Tell me if this works at all....

Hm, the only thing I could suggest is try burning one last time at 1x or 2x.
If you've already done that, plus you have made of copy of install.xbe and renamed it to default.xbe (so that it boots the installer straight away instead of booting the intro that comes with it), I'm afraid there's not much I can think of.
It could be a possibility of the old modchip and bios, but I don't want to jump to that conclusion...

I'm glad, as I couldn't think of anything else that could solve it, lol.
