So, I am RELATIVELY new to the xBox modding scene. I have a v1.6 xbox softmodded with EvoX . That's all gravy. I have a 500GB sata drive that I had laying around,S.M.A.R.T. was good, also gravy. Used chimp to copy the drive using selective and copying just C&E, no issue. System booted up a few times with the new drive after locking it using the LOCK WITH MOTHERBOARD KEY option.
This is where it gets weird.
System eventually booted up with really really slow response. It was so slow that I couldn't select something without a 3-5 second delay, all the while a FPS of like 10 was happening. So I just rebooted, and then I got Error 13. Which I know comes from bad Key, so again back to chimp. I made sure the drive was locked. Tried lock with MB, no dice. Tried lock with eeprom, no dice. I was about to give up, but then I plugged my external(used for data transfers for IDE/SATA) power supply in to the end of the SATA adapter, and then the ide cable, and it booted right up. The only issue is, that if I go back to the Xbox PSU it WILL NOT boot. I get code 13 error every time.
Here's the kicker, Xbox HDD(original IDE) powers on with molex from xbox PSU.
All that in mind, my theory is that the IDE/SATA Adapter possibly ground out against the hard drive, and the upped voltage is causing the board to pass just enough electricity through that the device functions.
I just really want a few minds that have more experience than I do at this to see if they can think of any reason it wouldn't work.
Thanks in advance:)

I think the evidence you provided suggests this is very likely some sort of issue with the SATA/IDE adapter.
However one question should be asked first: are you using an 80 wire replacement IDE cable? These are recommended by most Xbox experts, when using SATA HDDs with IDE adapters.
If not then try replacing that rather than adapter to see if it resolves the problem. I hope it will but if it doesn't then the obvious thing is to try a new SATA/IDE adapter.
I've found that the SATA HDDs I use boot to the dash slower than native IDE HDDs and similarly when first booting any app or game but there should be no general slow down in the way you describe.

A.) I have not replaced the cable with an 80 pin. I had seen that there was some materials that indicate using a replacement 80 wire cable. I just ordered one, and should be here Friday, Also ordered another SATA converter to see what happens.
B.)I do want to note that I found another oddity about this machine this morning. Apparently, I can power it via External supply but if I want to actually get to the dash I have to press the eject button on my unit, even though there is no disk in there.
C.)Boot time was a little slow, but I suspect that the adapter is to blame for that. Since the speed is getting bottlenecked anyway.
D.) Just throwing things out there, I have considered that there may also be an actual problem with the Dash(Not the cause of the listed issue, but still not good), so would it be more beneficial for me to try to remove the softmod, start fresh, reinstall, and then CHIMP it?

It was the 80 wire cable that did the trick. Soon as I plugged it in, it worked immediately. although I should've ordered a longer cable, that's neither here nor there.
