unleash x dash wont show shortcuts in games or emulators folder on the main screen.

alright guys so i just softmodded an original xbox v1.5 to v1.6 added a big hard drive formatted it in xbpartionerv1.3 and put coinops 6 full on it. when i copy the default.xbe file from the F coinops folder into the E folder for the dashboard into either games or emulators folder on E drive.

the shorcut will not show up at all at the start of unleashx dashboard under games or emulators I'm stuck I would like to know how to do it so when I first boot up I can choose a shortcut to coinops within my unleash X dashboard at the start by navigating to the emulators or games folder in the dashboard.

plz help

edit: am open to using xbmc but tried it before had same problem as written above, there must be something im not installing btw. this was a softmod with splinter cell on ntsc xbox

If you've just copied the game .xbe and dumped it in the E:\Games or Emulator folder it isn't a shortcut it is a copy of the .xbe. Have you put it in a folder named correctly and not simply re-named the default.xbe?

If you did the latter the game/emulator will not appear in UnleashX's main menu, it requires there to be a "default.xbe" in any game/emulator folder.

In any case if you just copied in the default.xbe and did put that in a correctly named folder whilst I'd expect it to appear in UnleashX's main Game or Emulator menu I do not think it will launch the game/emulator without all the other files/folders being there too.

You need to use the Xbox shortcut maker to make a shortcut pointing at the default.xbe in the parent game or emulator folder on the F:\drive. That also would have to be put in a correctly named folder on the E:\drive for UnleashX to recognise it.

Second possibility is that the Config.xml has been messed about with and you need to check that under the separate Games and Emulators entries that there are command lines looking for them on the E:\, F:\ and G:\drive. If not that's the problem.

Finally why bother at all making shortcuts or mess around trying to put games or emulator shortcuts on the E:\drive? If the Config.xml is correctly set up it should be looking for Games and Emulators on the F:\drive. They will (or should) be recognised and displayed in UnleashX's main menu under Games and Emulators without you needing to do anything other than reboot.

Thanks for your reply.

after installing the shortcut xbe maker on my windows desktop. run the program now what to do ? it asks for xbX files and not xbE files. it wont allow me to choose the default xbe in the parent directory in F drive or it doesn't tell anyone how to select it

need to have a good step by step guide for how to use it because its too much confusion.

The .xbx you're refering to is what you use for the Custom Title Image ie. what you've done is create a TitleImage.xbx file for the shortcut but not the shortcut itself.

Quite how you done this I have no idea as the .xbx creator I know is a completely different program called Xbox Image Converter which turns JPEGs into .xbx files.

Maybe later versions of the XBE Maker included this option but on v1.0 which is what I have the only option other than to use the default shortcut .xbe icon is to use a custom one. This requires you to source or create a TitleImage.xbx yourself and point the XBE Maker at it before creating the shortcut. The shortcut will then use this .xbx as its display icon on the Xbox.

Never used that option myself as all my custom made icons are converted and stored ready to use on the Xbox. I just add them to the appropriate UDATA folder or other main folder as required.

So to create the actual shortcut using XBE Maker:-

Delete the default XBMC Target Path XBE Maker is pre-set up to create or use it as a template, replacing the XBMC path shown for your new one. It should look something like this:-

Target Path: F:\Games\Whatever\default.xbe

If the target is in sub-folder(s) the full path ie. \Sub Folder Names have to be added to the path in front of the \Whatever folder.

Title Name: Whatever

Title ID: FE000000 ie. any made up 8 digit/letter combo currently not used by any other game, emulator or app on your system.

This is important as it will generate a folder in the UDATA and TDATA identifying the shortcut. If there is any conlict with an existing folder ID you will have problems.

Now click on the big button: Create Shortcut and you should end up with an .xbe shortcut file for your chosen target.

FTP that to your Xbox but please test it works before commiting it to its final location.

I got it work finally after almost a year., but it was by extracting all the contents of a emulator folder into one folder named "games" or "emus" on the F drive location wouldn't some of the files get overwritted and or loss of games or data occur? (doing this to remind you is to make the icons/shortcuts show up on the dashboard)

for example you have coinops all setup and awaiting FTP

1. you either make a folder called "games" and extract the coinops folder into it.

2. you rename the coinops folder to be called "games"

2.5 IT WORKS HURRAY

3. but from here now if you want to add more emulators to show as icons you need to extract them into the same folder.

What I don't understand is will some of the files extracted OVERWRITE some of the previous one if they share the same name under the SAME NAMED FOLDER "games" "emus". As I don't think the xbox has this function built in when you are copying stuff TO WARN about ***THIS FILE WILL BE OVERWRITTEN YES OR NO *** like windows does..

If overwritting does occur then loss of working games may occur am I right ?

Helps is appreciated.
