So, DVD has died for good on my XB (won't open, won't read the disk stuck in there...), network adapter seems to be dieing (IP address doesn't reliably get assigned apparently - as in, dashboard shows no IP most of the time without rebooting the XB over and over again instead of the proper address). Started googling adding a usb port to the XB and hit on a recommendation for a USB adapter that plugs into one of the controller ports. Found a dealer on Ebay with the things, but they cost $20. So here's the question for you guys - Can anyone tell me what to expect with one of these things? All I really need it for is transferring games to the upgraded HDD on the XB - will this do the job, and how would I go about it? Thanks again, guys!!!!!!!!

Ive never used an external adapter, but all my XBOXs I wire a USB into controller port 4 (its very easy, takes 10 minutes max, no soldering required)
You want to have XBMC installed and need a 4GB or less USB. Format it to FAT32- 4096 Allocation Size. You can now easily copy games to it using your PC, then use XBMC to copy the games to the XBOX. This does take an obscene amount of time though. Copying from USB is slow like wind errosion.
You could also pop a PC DVD drive into the XBOX. Requires a Molex power splitter. Will read burned discs no issue but not retail discs.
