OK I hope I didn't hose my box... (I know, not a good way to start a question) I am installing a new SmartXX V2 on a 1.6 Xbox. I am rebuilding the LPC. I got all of the wires soldered just fine except for the on that goes to LAD2. I didn't realize that it was a surface mount (i.e. it doesn't have a small hole to stick the wire into like the other mounts.) Now the solder at that point has been removed. I can't seem to get any solder to stick at that point. How do I rebuild it? If you look at this link http://www.teamxecuter.com/x3/tutorials/x3pin16.htm you can see the point I am talking about. It is the Red connection with the open circle for LAD2. Thanks for the help!! Bikeswine

There should still be a point to solder to even if you desoldered your original try.

Are you saying that there is absolutely nothing left on the board? What I usually do is use a 25watt iron and place it on the spot for about three seconds and then touch some .022 solder to it. It usually puts a nice little bead of solder on the area.

Then, I tin the wire with a little solder and place the wire on the bead of solder. I then proceed to touch the wire as its laying on the bead of solder and it sucks right into it.

Let me know if you need more help, I'll see what I can do. Can you take a pic of the point and post it?

later man

Hiya

it looks like you have ripped the pad off, does your xbox boot?

I would be suprised if it did, you could well have a dead mobo.

it's fixable tho, get down to auto store and buy some heated rear windscreen repair paint (conductive paint), you can also buy pens that do the same thing.

Sand down each end of the track until you can see the shinyness of metal a fair bit and join using the paint, let it dry and test for continuity. I would not like to try soldering to it tho so you will need to find another point (follow the track until you find another point, if you pass through a component on your way then try the other direction)
