A customer of mine sent me a machine, chip, and HD for me to take care of for him. I am having issues with his mobo, but that isn't the problem here.

I am also doing another mod for someone who also is using a 160GB HD. I inadverently grabbed customer A's Maxtor HD and installed on the brand new 1.6 machine that I just chipped with a SmartXX Version 2 and flashed with the M8 bios. It is not a 1.6b by the way.

When I went to run the AI, I cannot get this puppy to format to save my life. The jumper is set fine. It's a Maxtor 6Y160P0042811 HD.

Has anyone used this HD and had issues with it? I did the ole HD compatibility search and no results were found.

Luckily, I went into my newegg order and saw that I had ordered a Samsung for my customer B and right away I recognized my mistake Smile

It formatted like a champ and I am already FTP'ing all the goodies into it.

Any info, send it my way...

later all

Ugh... I hope it's not the same kind as the one I just ordered...

I'm pretty sure the HDDs have to be Ultra-ATA, not the other kind of ATA, but you probably know that already. Not sure what you're asking for, specifically, but... I guess I can't help...

Dude, I know what you are talking about. It had a funky end to it....I think those were the ATA 150's...

I ordered one of those by mistake once too..

This one actually says ATA 133 though...I have installed these before with no issues...this is why I am baffled

later man

I actually found some info on it, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to use this HD. I am wondering if I need to get an ATA cable instead of an IDE cable that the xbox uses.

What is strange is I know someone has given me an ATA HD before and I tried to use the ATA cable (80 pin) and the machine fragged until I swapped it with the original IDE cable.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

Friggin Xbox's...just when you think you know all you need to know..BAM it screws with you!

I knew you'd figure it out, MG! Very Happy

Don't worry, though. I'll give you plenty more to grind your mental gears over when I go to install my new HDD.

Dude, one time I had a machine with the older Xenium blue and 1.1 OS. I couldn't get the damn thing to work right, wasn't booting up to the OS. I mucked around with it, kept opening my machine and looking to see what i could see....

turns out I forgot to plug the controller in and the older Xeniums with that OS wouldn't boot up fully without it in...grrrrrrrr....
