I tried to softmod my XBox using auto installer deluxe v 4.50.
Now when I turn it on, the xbox logo comes up and then there is just a blank screen.
I tried to restore my old MS Dashboard by going back into Splinter cell and reloading the 'linux' game save. But instead of taking me back to the softmod setup screen, it just reloads splinter cell.
So, I now can't access the softmod screen to restore the original dash board.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to sort this out? Perhaps I could FTP a different Splinter Cell game save or something?

If the xbox can not boot Auto installer deluxe then you will need the xbox eeprom bin file to re build the HDD from scratch, so now i need to ask if you have tried AID or if you have a backup of the eeprom?

I backed up the eeprom before I started the install. However it is on the XBox HDD, which I can't access.

Download explorer360 and install it to your PC, hook the xbox HDD to your PC and retrieve the eeprom code.
You can use it to rebuild the HDD if Auto installer deluxe is failing to launch.

Great, thanks.
Can you post a link for instructions for rebuilding the HDD?

Click on either link under my sig. Both use pirrup's xboxhdm method. You can find xboxhdm in our download section. That also has instructions you can follow. It's an old method, but then again so is the xbox1. lol
Cheers,

Thanks dangermouse, but I want to try using explorer360 first if I can.
Am I right in thinking that what I need to do in explorer360 is the follwing:
Click drive > open > harddrive or memcard
Click drive > restore image
Specify the location of the backup of my original dash (it should still be on one of the partitions, wherever AID backed it up to).
Is that the general idea?

I'm having trouble unlocking my HDD. I've tried using MHDD and firmw techniques. However, I can't get my PC to detect the hard drive when I boot up to use either of those techniques. So, I haven't been able to even attempt using explorer360.
Regarding dangermouse's suggestion: I looked at your hotswapping method, however the only copy of the MS dash I have is on the Xbox HDD I'm having a problem with. I can't find a copy of MS dash to download anywhere.
If i can't get hold of a copy of MS dash, would it be feasible to unlock the HDD using the hotswap method, and then install a different dash? Ideally I'm trying to get to a point where I have XBMC installed.

If xplorer360 isnt detecting drive force error 12 on xbox by unplugging power to dvd drive, with pc booted up pull ide cable from dvd/cd drive and plug it into your xbox hdd it should recognize it now
and you can get a fresh ms dash off of a slayers disc

Thanks. I tried everything I could find, including all of the suggestions above. Alas, nothing worked. I think that there is an issue with the motherboard on my PC.
In the end I bought an EEPROM reader from eBay (I'm lazy, but I hear they are pretty easy to make yourself) for about £5. Then I built a new hard drive from scratch. Now I have an awesome media player in my living room.
I would recommend this solution to anyone who has locked their hard drive and is having similar problems to me with unlocking it. As long as your PC has a serial port (though I'm pretty sure you can convert it to USB), this is an extremely easy solution.

1 thing i forgot to mention is after swapping the pc dvd drive for xbox hdd go to device manager and scan for hardware changes your hdd should show up under diskdrives. if it doesnt repeat hotswap. Getting a hotswap is an art, Ive spent countless hours trying, come close to hucking the drive into a wall, but just keep trying eventually it will work for you and once youve done it its childsplay after that

If I have something to add I add it that simple, and there was no response to the last request for help so I figured Id add my 2 cents, and whether old or new it could still help someone
