Hi all, brand new to these forums but I'm tearing my hair out about this problem.
My Xbox had been happily softmodded for around 9 months. Everything worked flawlessly. Since I bought an LCD tv recently I thought I'd get a component cable so I can upscale DVD's etc in XBMC.
Whenever I tried to run the original MS dash to change to HD resolution from the menu item in EvoX, it would say the MS dash was missing. Thinking I'd be clever, I renamed the xboxdash.xbe to msdash.xbe, and now I get Error 13 when starting the Xbox.
Looked all over the net, people recommend doing a dashboard update via a game; Just gives Error 21 when I click new account. I've tried re-running the Splinter Cell Linux savegame (which I kept on the hard disk); Gives an Error 21. Tried burning AID to about 6 different brands of media, both DVD-R and CD-R (drive in the Xbox is a phillips btw), the laser starts reading the disc, then Error 13 again.
Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this problem?

I cant run any new exploits because I cannot access the dashboard to transfer them to the HDD. I think my only option will be to hotswap and use xboxhdm to rebuild the drive unless someone else knows of another way to repair this?

You can always just download the AID disc, burn it to a CD/DVD and then play it in your Xbox, it may sit at a black screen for about 3 minutes before the menu shows, but once it shows, you should be able to gain FTP access to your Xbox and rename your dashboard's back to normal.
If that doesent work, hot swap your hard drive, then boot into windows, use the XPlorer360 tool to access your FATX Drive (Xbox Hard Drive) and rename the files using that.

Try turning on the xbox with the tray eject button and make sure the tray is open during the flubber intro thing. Let me know if it changes anything.

Did that, goes straight to Error 13 after loading. I've burnt so many AID discs, but none of them seem to work. You hear the drive reading the disc, then it just goes back to an Error 13. Do the drives need very specific cd/dvd media?

Just burnt AID at 1x speed using DVD Decrypter (as advised) with CD-R's that work on my Xbox's drive and it still doesn't work. Just reads a little, then goes to Error 13. What am I doing wrong?

Okay, since it seems like the Xbox cannot read any disc, you are going to have to Hot Swap it, this method will allow you to rename the dashboards back to orignal and not lose any information (as long as you do this correctly). You are going to want to hot swap your xBox Hard Drive (there should be a ton of tutorials on the site). Once you do that you will need a application called XPlorer360, which you can most likely get from XBins or this web site. Once you have that and windows is running, run XPlorer360 and rename the dashboards.

Hotswapped and found out one of my partitions is missing when using Xplorer360. Since it works in Xplorer360 I KNOW the drive is unlocked, but when I boot using Xboxhdm and try to build a new HDD from scratch it comes up saying:
Code:
No xbox partion table found on /dev/hda
Drive is not locked but locking is enabled
Dont reboot until you have built a working xbox hdd since rebooting will relock the drive.
Press any key to abort the operation.....
So, I used option 5. Wipe current fatx partition table, which it says is for REPAIRING CORRUPT HDD's in PREPARATION FOR STEP 1. Even after doing that, building a new HDD from scratch still wont work.
Starting to get pissed off to be quite honest, about ready to chuck this shit out of my window. Tools that people write about online just clearly dont work.
AID: Doesn't work.
Slayer's: Doesn't work.
Xboxhdm: Doesn't work.
Xplorer360: Has errors, may have corrupted my drive?
Cheat pre-softmodded C files: Don't work. Error 21.
Really cant see a way of fixing this.

With no copy of your eeprom for that xbox you can only build an eeprom reader, chip the box or trash the box and start over.
Do you have a copy of the eeprom?
