Sorry about the misunderstanding, I had originally read your post at 3 or four in the morning so I was a little tired. So I missed out on some of the "little" things like the TITLE! Already slapped myself on the forehead. Anyway sorry about that.
This is a long shot, but did you put the hdd on the primary ide cable in master position? Did you change the pin settings to master instead of CS? I know that you followed the tut's to the T I was just wondering if that might be something that you overlooked. I hear that Xboxhdm has some incompatibilities with certain machines. That might also be your problems have you tried to do this on another machine?

I read somewhere that changing the jumpers is a bad idea? either way its set to master and I have never changed it. I have tried it on several computers, one is about 10 years old, the other 5 and my main gaming computer, is about 1 year old and to no avail.
Looking at the EEPROM reader and I don't think it will cost me $10, $3 at the most, its only made up of some zener diodes and resistors!

Just put my pennies worth in:- i can never get error 12 when just unplugging the ide cable (all i get is error 11) try pulling the power of the cd drive too!! it works for me
