ok so i have an old xbox that i am modding and i want to use an atx power supply because my old one is shot and i have a mess load of axt power supplies. i know it wont fit in the original xbox case but that doesnt matter because i am making my own from scratch. i know what the pinouts are but i was wondering if any one knows what the wattage and amperage is for the standby power on the xbox so i can get a regulator to go from the 5v standby on the atx to the 3.3v on the xbox. Or if any one has a schematic to build your own that would work to, i dont mind doing a little soldering plus it'll give me something more to do lol.

Hello,
Cant help you with schematics but this is the voltage regulator you want :
http://www.ecrostech.com/General/MiniPsu/LM317.htm

you need a few more bits to go with the above regulator, why not save the trouble and go with one of these ? :

thanks for the links but the first link on there is for psu not atx but it lets me know what limits i need are so thanks. the second one there is a good idea i might get one of those. I know the pinouts are different from the atx to xbox but i already have a pigtail made to plug into the xbox and the power supply i just need the regulator for the standby to go from 5v to 3.3 so i dont fry the xbox. it looks pretty simple maybe i can find the schematic.
thanks for the help i appretiate it.

Sorry about the first link, this is the regulator you need:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062601

You could skip the regulator idea and solder `in series` two 1N4001 diodes on the ATX 5vsb ...... Giving you 3.6vsb for the xbox (not quite 3.3v but close enough)

thanks that reg should work. i didnt even think about an ajustable one. I have heard of people using the diode trick but from what i have heard is its not real stable and they burn out or something after a while.

i did manage to find a schematic with part#'s last night so i might try it the only problem is i have to order the parts online because raidoshack has a horrible selection any more and the prices are ridiculous.. if anyone wants to try it here is the link:

I was thinking about adding some leds to it like the adapter that sickmods sells, looked like a cool idea. The parts are less than $4.50 vs. the $18 at sick mods and i can put the leds where i want them.
