So I softmodded my brother's xbox after installing a brand new philips hard drive. I used the most up to date softmod. It worked well for 3 days, but now when he goes to play it, it gets stuck at the microsoft xbox logo. It's also having a hell of a time reading disks. Before I softmodded his xbox, it had sat in the basement for like a year. I've been reading on the forums and it looks like I might have encountered the clock error.
But I'm thinking the hard drive is bad. So my question is, if I bought a used hard drive off ebay, what would I have to do to get it working with his xbox? Would it be as easy as installing the new hard drive and just softmodding again? Somehow I don't think so. Any suggestions? Any info I'm leaving out? Thanks in advance.

The clock error will give you an error screen most of the time and since you do get the boot screen have you tried putting in the AID disk and tryed to launch that?
Sounds to me like it cant find your dash.

Thanks for the quick response guys. So I've been talking to my brother over the phone and trying to fix the problem remotely because he lives a couple hours from where I live. So basically he starts it up and doesn't even get an error code. It just hangs on the microsoft xbox logo and doesn't reboot. The xbox is about 5 years old so maybe its just time to get a new one. I haven't tried the AID disc yet so maybe I'll go download that now. Any download site recommendations? Or should I just google or xbins for it? He said he got an audio disc to play for a minute or two but that's all.

So I downloaded and burned the AID disc. The next time I see my bro, what should I use the AID disc to do if I can get it to work? Just reinstall the dashboard?
