Over heating, make sure the fan is running and that its blowing air out of the case not pulling air in to the case.

I had the same problem a few times. lol Something burnt out and I just jumped a new fan off of the 12v power wires and installed a new fan and now it works fine. _________________ Alcohol free beer is like licking your sister... tastes the same but you know deep down it's just wrong!!!!

I found that after I modded a 1/4 inch thick and about the same diameter fan under my Hard Drive as one of the openings (it will probably be a little bit smaller fan than one of the openings on the HD) and connected it with a two and one wire so that I can run both the Console and the Hard Drive fan at the same time and set my X3ce Bios fan speed to about 70 while I play my games, that seem to make everything ok!, except when room temperature got to warm, then I had to used a house fan and pointed it in the direction of the Xbox Console to provide some extra cool air into the Entertainment Center that I have. _________________ Support A Hard Modder!

I want to see a case mod whare the case is made of just heat sinks, copper heat sinks.
Pop in a 120mm fan in the back and then check the temps.
Now if that wont stay cool nothing will. lol
how old is your Xbox? if it's an old one from like 2002 or v1.0 or v1.1 then chances are that's the cause...
while I was testing my broken one, at one point it also powered down right away (that means trace A is completely gone... see that tutorial),
how long does it stay on? does it make a silent beep when it goes off?
what happens when it's off and you unplug it, and plug it back in after 30sec?
wouldn't know why all of a sudden there would be a heatproblem?

Well last night I got it to run as long as I had it sitting under an open window woth the case open and the heatsink exposed, so Im guessing it has something to do with it over heating, the HDD I had in it last week died last Friday. It just seems odd that this would just start all of the sudden, I think I am just going to get another XBOX.

That wold fix it but did you check the fans for flow?
what you could do for better cooling is remove the heatsinks of the CPU and GPU and apply some descent coolpaste like Arctic Silver,
that sometimes makes a big difference, but it's no fun job, cause you gotta remove that sticky sh*t MS put between 'em...
do you have a v1.0, with a small fan directly on the GPU heatsink?
I've two v1.0, and both with a Fan mate, so I can control the GPU fan speed from outside the Xbox, I let them run as slow as possible and still no overheating (but I don't really game with it, just XBMC (I set it to keep temperature under 45C, but I'd put it faster for gaming)
