My 12 year old son has changed the stock fan to a 80mm 12v fan.

Okay riddle me this.....how come people destroy the 80mm fan basically to fit it into the xbox so the lid will go back on? Why not just niche out the lid a little to allow for clearance to the fan? Just a thought.

If you dont cut the fan the hard drive table wont fit.

Just to make sure im clear here since my own wording struck me as odd,by pull air in to the xbox the fan wold be pointing away from the xbox pulling the air in from the side vents.
So if you put your hand over the fan in back you wold feel the hot air comeing out.
