You are trying to patch a xbe file?? I can only assume this is what you want to do. You need to be a little more specific.

to patch a game from a CDRW you could use the XBOX FILE MANAGER application to rename your old default.xbe on your XBOX HDD and then copy the XBOX D:\ Parition (DVDROM).
Its not that simple but the XBOX FILE MANAGER has help screens which explains how to use the joypad to select/copy/edit and rename files.
personally, i would ftp the file over from your pc
