I am JUST getting into all this, i havent actually modded my xbox yet, but have just ordered a xecuter 2.2 lite pro cos it has the bios flashed, and its solderless. I have downloaded evolution x but notice some forums and sites say to make a 0dummy file, some dont (and they say it can be ANY file as long as its 250mb?) I have had a few problems with the ISO programs, as most seem to require the copywritten, GDFImage.exe, is there a program that DOESNT require this? can I burn a backup game without it? Finally (told you i was new) Can I connect my xbox directly to my PC with a crossover cable, (I dont have a cable modem or dsl) as I have an asus motherboard with an onboard nvidia NIC, then use an FTP program. I also noticed that craxtion extracts the ISO etc, can it act as an FTP and extract it from your xbox to your PC ?
I keep reading the tutorials but am getting blinded by science!
Cheers guys

No you don't have to have it, you can also use xISO to do the same job.
I made a dummy file of 300 MB and it worked great. I did try it without just to see and it wouldn't work for me.
Second, you can connect directly with a crossover and most people consider this to be the easiest.
To extract a game or file from the xbox, you can do it with ftp or with CloneXB. Another useful program.

Good Luck and ask all the questions you'd like.

Thank you for the friendly and informative response:-)
I received my modchip today, having read a good many tutorials on installation, I installed and alligned it right first time.
the question I have is, do I need to make a bios disc as some forums seem to think I do? its an xecutor 2.2 lite plus.(preflashed) the cromwell flashbios screen appears as it should apparantly. I do have evolution x and xiso ready to make a cdrw to load (might have a problem because I have a thomson dvd drive....version 1.0)
the reason I want to know this, is because I need to make backup discs, I have a 1 year old son who decides to destroy my dvds and games, so I wish to use backups.
I realise you guys get a lot of these questions, but unfortunately some people explain things in such a confusing manner, wheras the previous answer was very easy to understand. Cool

Yes you do, the first time you start up the xbox with cromwell, it will ask for a new bios.
That is when you install the bios disc and let it do its job.
