Is the heat shield really necessary for the xbox to operate? i mean, will it like melt the case or anything since the power supply has nothing to absorb its heat? I would really like to get some LED and electroluminescent lights going through the whole xbox w/o the heat shield. (but of course I don't want to risk any kind of fire hazard )

i had the same worries, but it works just as good without it, i think it takes the temp down a few degrees, it doesnt act as a "insulator" _________________ (2) XBOX v1.4:

I pull the rf shild out first thing i had a knee high pile of them for trash pick up a few months back.
If you got cable its no prob for your tv and if you run bunnie ears you damn near got to set the xbox on top the tv to get a snowie screen.

But doesn't the heat shield always protect against static electrcity as well?
I read on a website that they had multiple purposes and that was one of them. I could be wrong though.

I have been running my xbox for years now and have seen nothing that wold show a real need for the rf shild.
As for helping with static electrcity i wold say just dont push your xbox across the rug and your fine.
In the winter when the heater is running my house is a static electrcity mine fild and still i have had no probs.

Seems like a metal sheild would conduct electricity. The plastic casing of the xbox will protect it from static. Plastic is an insulator

Good call man thats the real deal here but most of all ask around most folks just chuck the shild to the side.
