I've been using XBMC for about a year or so, and everything's been working fine. I don't know what version I was on, but it was fairly old so I figured I'd update it.
The most recent version I found was XBMC-SVN, 2007-06-28, rev9461. I downloaded it, ftp'd all the files to the correct places and went on to try it out.
It all works great apart from the fact I can't seem to open/run any programs or emulators, and I can't seem to work out why it is. I tried replacing my userdata folder with the one that came with the new download, but that made no difference. I also later found out I couldn't run any discs that I tried opening from within XBMC.
I would try with a different dash, but I can't open any of the secondary ones I have installed as programs and I don't want to go through the hassle of moving around the default if there's a simple solution.
So if anyone can help me work out why nothing seems to be happening, I'd really appreciate it! Cheers!

Try deleting the contents of your E:/cache folder and x,y,z partitions. _________________

Deleting the cache did nothing on its own, but when I went to delete the contents of my X/Y/Z partitions, I noticed they have gone/changed:
There's now C, D, E, F, H and Q when I ftp into it. Could that be anything to do with the problem? Also, when I look through the XBMC file explorer H has changed to G.
In the file explorer, H and G come up with an error message when I try openin either of them saying 'path not found or invalid'. The Q drive shows that it has the same amount of free space as the E drive (which I seem to remember Z doing before), and the two share some of the same files but not all of them (Q seems to have all XBMC files i.e. 'skin', 'scripts', 'visualisatins' etc., is that right?).
When ftp-ing into it, the F drive is empty, Q shows the same files as it does when looking through file explorer, but H shows files such as 'xodash', 'rescuedash', 'fonts' and 'bios'.
I don't remember what was on each partition before, as I only ever used E so I'm not sure if anything has changed other than the name of each one.

The xyz partitions are your cache. In xbmc the q drive is actually your xbmc folder and shows the same amount of free space as the partiton xbmc is located in (f for me). I really have no idea how to get to the xyz partitions in xbmc. Maybe someone who uses xbmc more knows. _________________

I see a problem, if it can't find the directory, you may have shut off your xbox faster then it could HANDLE, which means it could have damaged some data, if you cannot no matter how hard and how many tricks you try, open up past the F partition, and the F is empty, you may wanna format F and E. Unless you had important stuf there, then keep trying, I don't wanna take the blame for losing stuff important to you. Or a conflict could be happening and your xbox is taking on the world! Either way, I don't claim to know exactly, and think you should install the version of XBMC that last worked for you.
(PS, D is your DVD drive, FYI if you were curious and didn't know.)

I don't remember having turned off my xbox when it was doing anything...maybe I'm wrong?
I don't really have anything on there that I care too much about. It's just the hassle of having to redo everything I'm worried about.
The previous version of XBMC I had was the one from the AID v3.10 disc I used to install everything. If I just try installing XBMC again from that, would that work?
Also, if that doesn't work and I decide to format E and F, how would I go about doing it?
