Hey all, I got one of the infamous 1.6's where they put so much lacquer on the mobo the LFRAME holes are non-existent.
Anyone know where I can grab a fiberglass pen? I buddy of mine gave me his and I cannot find it to save my life! I can't remember where he got it, and unfortunately....he's in IRAQ!

Hiya
I have had loads of 1.6's and never had any problems with laquer, but saying that do you use the bottom d0? I always use the smartxx lpc fix.
If you still want a pen tho automotive places usually sell them (around here anyway)

Well, I just grabbed two of the Holiday Xbox Bundles and both of them had loads of lacquer, top and bottom..so both top two LFRAME holes and the bottom LFRAME hole were totally covered. I used an exacto blade and gently shaved away until I saw copper..then I just soldered the LFRAME wire in place.
Before, I was only getting one ever ten or so mobo's....but, I have been hearing people saying there are two 1.6 versions floating around...I believe that to be true since I get a lot of 1.6's w/o lacquer and a few with. BTW, both holiday bundles had Samsungs in them.. dunno if that is going to be the norm or I just got lucky..who knows.
I'll check my local automotive store for the fiberglass pen though..never even thought about that _________________ Good Deals: Death@Hand, funkydopenloven, StaticMind, Slamscaper, PorscheXboxter

If not RS and tandys do them over here, tandys is the uk name for radioshack tho think they outta business over here now.
Yeh all the 1.6's I have done are crystals and never had a prob with laquer over here, hope I never do, have done about 14 of them over last few weeks without a single problem. Most of mine had samsungs too but one or two had phillips drives. Same as some had WD and some had seagate hard drives among other differences.
When I need to remove laquer I use a fine pointed pic and just scrape a bit away (had to do a few track repairs before now) Never thought of fibreglasspen before, will have to get one methinks.

Have you ever used conductive paint for trace repairs?? It works pretty good as long as you dont have to apply to long of a line of it. You can get that at auto stores too...it's the same stuff they use for repairing broken rear window defroster lines...
My wife does nails for a living and she has special brushes for nail art, so she can draw very very thin lines of paint. I had her get me one and it is the exact width of a trace line...so it works pretty good..

Hiya
Yeh I have used it on a few occasions for other ppl mods gone wrong, I gotta say it's a damn good and effective idea.
I had a mobo once where a guy slipped with a torx bit and scraped it half way up the mobo, took me hours but got it working. removing the laquer off the track is what I don't like.
