No to the Athlon... I've gone through quite a few. What socket motherboard are you looking at. If you have a 939 id go for a AMD 64

if your gonna use 64 bit then you might as well go with the AM2 Socket, even thou the AM3 socket shoudnt be too far away. _________________

Do you think if I got a brand different than what it says it wouldn't fit? I'm looking at AMD's ATHLON series, also im looking at Asus Boards.
Go with the AMD Opteron Dual-Core 165 1.80GHz / 2MB Cache / 1000MHz / Socket 939 / Hyper-Transport / Dual-Core / Processor with Fan it's only 1.8ghz but you can overclock it to 2.5-2.7Ghz and it will still run cool. (great overclocker) with Asus A8N 32-SLI-Deluxe NVIDIA Socket 939 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / SLI Ready / Dual Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 / Serial ATA / Dual RAID and With a gig of ram......
IF you keep it stable at 2.6Ghz its as fast as a AMD Athlon 64 FX60
you should still be under $500.00..... _________________

well didnt you state the water cooler specs that it works with all k8 model amd chips lol, It covers that processor too lol. As for the mounting hardware if the cooling kit dont include it you can find the hardware at http://www.frozencpu.com or http://www.coolerguys.com _________________

no, i haven't put a computer together yet. thats why im asking so many questions, i don't wanna buy something that incompatible. Also Hellblazer, your saying even if I get a motherboard that my cooler doesnt have the hardware for, I can buy the mounting hardware for that board and my cooler will work with any board.

Ok, to break things down a bit and make it a bit more simple, here we go:
I own the Thermaltake Big Water 735 series, its in the very PC I'm typing on now. My motherboard is an:
Asus M2N32 WS Pro nForce 590 SLi (Socket AM2)
Therefore, the Big Water cooling will work on AM2 boards running AMD Socket AM2 processors. I also know, that I used to have in this PC, a Socket 939 Asus Motherboard:
Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16 (Socket 939)
With this processor:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4600+ (Socket 939)
So therefore, the Big Water will also work on anything AMD Socket 939 based. Hopes this helps.

Once you pick figure out whats compatible the rest is a breeze. As far as I know most mother boards come with a digram showing you what goes where. The hardest thing I ran into is attaching the heatsink to the processor. I dont know if they changed it but from what I remember AMDs are a pain compared to Intels. _________________

Nonsense.
The newer socket sets are much easier, and don't forget, he's mounting a water cooler block anyway so it would be the same connection whether it was an Intel or AMD processor.
