My Xbox v1.0 was softmodded with evox, and while updating Gentoox, it downloaded a new BIOS, for what reason I can't imagine, but in any case it effectively bricked my Xbox. When I turn it on, it reboots three times and the LED blinks green and red. I cannot connect to it via FTP anymore, nor will it boot any optical discs. It is just dead.
I am not too big on soldering and stuff like that, so I think my best bet is to get an Xecuter 3 solderless chip. But I just want to be sure that chipping it will work even though my BIOS is essentially fried, or do I have any better options?

You are correct sir. I was never interested in Xbox Live so I had no problem with it. It worked beautifully for years. But now as I will get an X3 chip, I guess I will give Live a go.
So after I install the X3, I will be able to get the Xbox to boot via the BIOS onboard the X3, effectively bypassing the bad TSOP, after which I can reflash the TSOP with the original retail MS BIOS for Xbox Live compatibility, correct?

Yes the x3 will bypass the tsop, as mine was gone too, but if your gonna try and get the tsop back I suggest getting another cheap mod chip to preform a chip hotswap.
By booting up with the mod chip and then once the xbox is where its at, you remove the mod chip while the xbox is powered up then try reflashing the tsop.
By doing it this way theres that risk that may damage the mod chip, so thats why you get a cheap mod chip to preform that, then you got the good mod chip to run your mods. _________________

Hmm, so in order to reflash the TSOP, the modchip must be physically removed after the Xbox has booted up?
If so, next question is what is the cheapest crappo mod to use as fodder?

Nice, that is pretty cheap. I was just looking at http://www.hyperxmod.com/ which also looks cheap and simple.

I would steer away from that one, nothing but trouble from that chip. _________________
