Talks between Sony and Toshiba that were supposed to agree on a unified standard on next-generation disc format have collapsed, meaning both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray will both make it to market. Companies already behind the Blu-Ray format include Philips, Apple, Hitachi, Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung and LG.

HD-DVD supporters include NEC and Sanyo, and more than 80 films from studios such as Paramount, Warner Bros and Universal are slated for release on the format later this year. Blu-Ray discs can hold 50GB of data, while HD-DVD only store 30GB.

The HD-DVD group says tat 30GB is more than enough, and will also cost cheaper to make. While the Blu-Ray supporters say Capacity should out weigh production cost saying, it will be required in the future . The Xbox 360 is set to use HD-DVD format, while the PS3 is in favor of Blu-Ray.
